Is Chevy American?
First, the Chevrolet brand falls under the GMC umbrella that includes Buick, Cadillac, and Pontiac. Though GMC operates in 35 countries around the globe, the headquarters is station in Michigan. So, is Chevy American? Absolutely, and here are some other facts about where your favorite models are made:
- The Chevy Silverado and the Chevy Colorado are built in North and Central America.
- The Chevy Colorado is built in Wentzville, Missouri.
- The Chevy Silverado is built in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and also in Mexico.
Though the brand is in-demand all around the world, at least 50% of each Chevy truck has been produced in the US and Canada. In fact, 71% of the Chevy Colorado’s parts and 62% of the Silverado’s parts are made in the US or Canada.
Who Makes Chevy Trucks?
In the US, 38 US companies and GMC-owned facilities create Chevy parts. Mostly, this occurs near the headquarters in Michigan – or the Flint area, to be precise. But, the reach of Chevy is immense. To keep up with the global demand, Chevy parts come from a variety of countries. These include:
- Four Japanese Companies
- Five Mexican Companies
- Two South Korean & French Companies
- Three Canadian & Brazilian Companies
Individual partners also exist in Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Hungary, Egypt, Thailand, and India. So while Chevrolet vehicles are made in the United States, parts are sourced from many countries.
